Best Color Laser Printer - Why It Takes Time to Print

Have you ever wondered why it can take so long for a laser printer to start printing?

Even the best color laser printer can take forever to start its printing cycle.

Here is how the best color laser printer processes information.

- Network Traffic

Before a page prints, it is translated into a "printer description language"

This is essentially a set of instruction that tell the printer exactly where to put the specific dots on a page.

As this information is arranged around the idea of the "entire page", it is not the condensed and compressed information that we normally see a file in - it is almost a description of every part of the page sent to the printer.

This means that the file is much larger than it normally is on you hard drive, or when you're working on the file on your computer.

Larger file sizes mean that it takes that much longer for the information to reach the device.

- Smaller Processors

Most printers have an onboard processor.

The purpose of these chips is to decode the information as it comes across the network, translating it from the 1s and 0s that the network is talking about to the specific information that you're looking to print onto paper.

To keep printer costs at a reasonable level, these aren't close to as powerful as the processors in your computer - rather, they're much further scaled down processors.

While this task still takes a lot of computing power, it can take a little while - especially for larger files - to full print off. When looking for the best color laser printer, take into account the fact that this is an important consideration.

- Warm Up Times

Energy Saver has made it so that many more printers are more energy efficient - which is a good thing.

The downside, is that they're kept at lower temperatures while in standby mode.

Often, the warm up time on the printer is due to the unit having to warm up to the proper temperature.

While this can sometimes be altered, for the most part it isn't really worth it - you will actually pay a measurable difference in cost for electricity (sometimes more than the actual cost of the printer over its lifetime), and all for the added gain of a few seconds!
